Marco Baroni

Overview

Marco Baroni is an energy expert, consultant and lecturer at Sciences Po (the Paris Institute of Political Studies).

Marco has over 20 years of broadly varied work experience in the energy field, acquired in between a widely recognised international organisation (IEA, the International Energy Agency), a very dynamic European electricity and gas utility, university and, more recently, energy consulting and university lecturing.

He co-authored eleven editions of the World Energy Outlook, IEA’s flagship publication, where he was in charge of managing the power and renewables team and responsible for the related analysis, modelling and write-up. He has also been co-responsible for scenario designing, climate, gas, subsidies, and energy efficiency analysis. In the private sector, he worked as Senior Market Analyst in Essent Trading – a Dutch power and gas utility – responsible for mid- and long-term analysis of coal and power markets.

More recently he has been teaching a course on “Introduction to Energy Modelling Fundamentals” at Sciences Po, and has been working as an energy consultant, among others, on modelling of the China Power System, on the China Emission Trading System, on renewables integration and nuclear power analysis, on hydrogen imports into the European Union, and on a capacity building programme for African countries on energy statistics and modelling.

Marco holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy.
