{{item.title}}

Enel Foundation has been requested by the cities of Genoa, Milan and Turin to join the Task Force created following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the development and coordination of the resiliency strategies of the three cities to mitigate climate change impacts and related infrastructure risks.

By joining the Task Force, which involves three municipalities actively implementing resilience strategies, and strongly interconnected in their economic and social contexts, Enel Foundation reaffirms its scientific engagement on resilience challenges and its commitment in United Nation lead Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE) and the “Making Cities Resilient” Campaign .

Strong of its scientific expertise and a capillary network, Enel Foundation will support the three cities in their projects, starting from a first phase featuring the preliminary infrastructure resilience assessment through a dedicated workshop with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation’s "100 Resilient Cities network" to understand critical elements of interconnection and interdependence between the territories. The project is articulated in three phases that will last until 2021 and after the initial mapping, local stakeholders in each territory will be involved in an integrated flow resources analysis to understand the flows of people, vehicles and goods and to establish bespoke infrastructure monitoring models and design policies for the short term. The second phase will include a detailed risk scenario analysis and the elaboration of macro regional resilience guidelines with risk reduction and prevention measures for the industrial triangle of Genoa, Milan and Turin. It will also include the activation of financial resources through available EU funding opportunities. The third phase will include the monitoring of the guidelines implementation and the coordination between the parties involved in the task force.

Carlo PapaEnel Foundation Director, commented, “we’re humbled to contribute with our expertise to the joint transformational effort of three capital cities recognized as engines of change, at the heart of vibrant services, culture and social networks. We are ready to support those communities in their pioneering path towards sustainable and resilient development of their territories”.

Piero Pelizzaro, Chief Resilience Officer of the city of Milan, added, “This MoU is a great opportunity to showcase the needs of collaboration among cities that are indeed closer then what we believe when disaster come. We are greatful to Enel Foundation for their support: their experience and their scientific knowledge together with their commitment to the UNISDR Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies give us the sense of their leadership in the Resilience Action.”
