Enel Foundation is promoting the second edition of the Siena Summer School on Sustainable Development, dedicated to providing a high-profile training and qualification on sustainability issues in relation to the UN Agenda 2030 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), on which 193 nations are engaged.
The call for application has been extended until June 20th and the Summer School activities will take place from September 9-20, at the Santa Chiara Lab in the iconic city of Siena. The second edition is supported by Enel Foundation and organized by Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS) in collaboration with Leonardo, Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Italia, SDSN Mediterranean and University of Siena.
The initiative offers a group of forty participants, amongst doctoral students, young researchers, administrators, managers, public executives and policy makers a multidisciplinary training path on sustainable development, highlighting scientific theories as well as the methods to promote, monitor and measure initiatives defined by communities, individuals and companies to realistically achieve the SDGs goals.
During last year edition a total of 30 participants joined the two week-course addressing topics on environmental, economic and social sustainability while keeping an interdisciplinary approach and promotion of concrete solutions around politics, science and innovation, and new models for the private sector.
For the new edition, Enel Foundation will award five full scholarships, dedicated exclusively to PhD students who also submit their contributions to the Enel Foundation-ASviS e-book on SDGs by June 20th.
Generation 2030
The e-book is a further project enriching the collaboration with ASviS on education for sustainability and aims to engage Italian university students with the topic. The e-book, created with the collaboration also of Treccani Scuola, gathers contributions by Italian Rectors and Alumni of the 2018 edition of the Siena Summer School on Sustainable Development, who present their personal view on SDGs.
The second part of the e-book will be created through a crowdsourcing of further contributions by Academia at large on the topic of SDGs. In fact, the e-book will be expanded with the best stories and contributions from students on the implementation of the SDGs in Italy.
The role of younger generations in pushing for the agenda 2030 is indeed at the core of the Italian Festival for Sustainable Development organized by ASviS. A dedicated event called “Generation 2030” took place in Turin on June 4th and Enel Foundation took part to present the initiatives outlined above.
Christian Zulberti, Head of Relations with Universities and Research Centres of Enel Foundation, joined as panelist in the event and highlighted how the two projects realized with ASviS represent good examples of collaborative initiatives to stimulate the debate on the importance of SDGs.
