Trento, October 23-25th, 2019

Enel Foundation and the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change Foundation (CMCC) are joining forces on a partnership to promote scientific research and applications in the field of climate change. The scientific collaboration will cover educational and research activities in the area of Climate prediction research for operations and services as well as insights and strategies for adaptation with particular focus on extreme downscaling.

Joint Research teams will structure theoretical and experimental activities on topics of mutual interest, designing researches and publications, while disseminating knowledge to their stakeholders.

The partnership  was announced on the sidelines of the 7th Annual Conference of the Italian Society for Climate Sciences, dedicated to discussing “Climate Risk: Implications for Ecosystem Services and Society, Challenges, Solutions”. The ClimRisk19 conference took place in Trento, Oct. 23-25th, and aimed at connecting leading scientists, researchers, economists, practitioners, business leaders and policy makers focused on climate change and its multi-dimensional impacts.

Antonio Navarra, President of CMCC, commented: “At CMCC we have built advanced computational capabilities and advanced modelling of climate variations and scenarios. Partnering with Enel Foundation will allow us to further explore and improve analysis of the environmental and socio-economic impacts of climate change while developing widespread user-friendly tools for prevention and adaptation tailored to different application and stakeholders.”

CMCC, as a scientific organization, conducts and promotes scientific and applied activities within the scope of international climate change research. Its nine research divisions integrate and promote collaboration among interdisciplinary skills needed to deal with climate sciences related topics and to furthering knowledge in the field of climate variability, its causes and impacts, and their interactions with the global climate, through the development of high-resolution simulations of the atmosphere and ocean, surface and underground hydrology, environmental and socio-economic impact models.

Carlo Papa, Director of Enel Foundation, added, “Enel Foundation is honoured to partner with CMCC sharing an interest to investigate and modelling our climate system and its interactions with society at large having in mind the crucial role energy transition will play. We are committed to deliver reliable, rigorous, and timely scientific results and user-friendly tools that can drive adaptation and mitigation policies and action plans for all stakeholders to live and prosper in a new normal condition definitely characterized by increased hazard exposure and vulnerability”.
