Extreme E and Enel Foundation are glad to welcome Enel X in their partnership as Official Smart Charging Partner of the racing series. Enel X will provide charging technology, the JuicePump 40 Race Edition, to power the championship’s all-electric SUV named ODYSSEY 21.

As the climate crisis continues to disrupt natural and social equilibria, and transport is responsible for nearly a quarter of global energy-related CO2, Extreme E’s project gains relevance by the day. Started in 2019, it set out to showcase through world-class sport not only nature in all its beauty, but also the challenges the planet is facing. With Enel Foundation as Founding Scientific Partner, Extreme E is the pioneering electric off-road motoracing series that sees electric SUVs competing in extreme environments around the world damaged by climate-related events. By using the appeal of motorsport, the five-race global voyage aims at raising awareness on climate change, highlighting its impact and human interference in some of the world’s most remote locations.

The commitment is brought on also via the Extreme E Count Us In Challenge - a campaign using the power of sport, and the excitement of motor racing to inspire fans to take practical steps on climate change.

Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel X, said: “Our role as Official Smart Charging Partner of Extreme E is further confirmation of our commitment to pushing the boundaries of technological innovation in electric mobility. By providing our charging infrastructure to such an extreme racing competition, we can demonstrate that electric mobility truly has no limits, representing one of the best ways to combine sustainability and innovation to drive the energy transition. In addition, the Enel Group is also very happy to contribute to the championship with the Enel Foundation, which has been one of Extreme E’s Founding Scientific Partners since July 2020.”

The next stop on Extreme E’s five-event calendar is the Arctic X Prix in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, taking place from 28-29 August, where nine teams will all go head-to-head, racing for the coveted top step of the podium. Not only that, the event will highlight the devastating effects global warming is having on the Greenland icesheet.
