The African module of the 2021 edition of Open Africa Power officially drew to an end on July 26, after 8 weeks of classes and workshops. It was delivered online by our partner the Graduate School of Business (GSB) of the University of Cape Town, aiming to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the energy sector, its current challenges and opportunities. Throughout the course of the training the relation between the power sector and the Sustainable Development Goals was thoroughly addressed, deep-diving into topics like resiliencerenewables, smart grids, investment trends in Sub-Saharan Africa, risk mitigation for SSA IPPs, policy and regulation and many others. Our partner the Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) crowned this African training during the final class with a special workshop on leadership and what it means nowadays.

The module also saw the active participation of the Alumni community, with some representatives taking part in one of the panels to offer their experiences to the 2021 class. Some of this year’s students also shared their thoughts about this year’s edition of the program, writing about why they applied and what have been the most inspiring moments for them.
