Jeffrey Sachs opens the Siena International School on Sustainable Development 2022

The 2022 edition of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development starts today, opened by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, with an online lecture. The class is entitled "The Economic and Social Impacts of Decarbonizationand will discuss opportunities, solutions and implications of the decarbonization process for our society and our businesses.

The opening lecture will be introduced by professor Angelo Riccaboni, Director of the School, President of Santa Chiara Lab – University of Siena, Co-Chair SDSN Europe; by Carlo Papa, Co-chair of the School, Managing Director of Enel Foundation; by Giulio Lo Iacono, Operations Coordinator of the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS)and by professor Patrizia Lombardi, President of the Network of Universities for Sustainable Development (RUS).

More than 300 participants, coming from more than 60 countries that for the first time go beyond the European borders, will attend the Siena International School on Sustainable Development 2022. After the self-learning first phase, participants (graduates, researchers, managers, officers at private and public institutions, entrepreneurs, schoolteachers) will start the second phase of the educational program (23 March - 20 May): 12 online webinars, entirely in English, with internationally renowned experts and scholars on the challenges, problems, technologies and solutions in the decarbonization process, the public policies and regulations, and the role of finance and private sector.

The third and final phase will take place at the Santa Chiara Lab - University of Siena from 13 to 18 June 2022 with 5 days on campus classes and interactive workshops on future implications and solutions, held by international experts and high-profile professors. This final phase of the School will be attended by 30 selected participants and will end with the discussion of their final projects.

The School is organized by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS)Santa Chiara Lab – University of Siena, and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN), powered by Enel Foundation, and supported by the Italian University Network for Sustainable Development (RUS) and SDSN Europe.

The webinar will be open to the public and available in live streaming from 3 to 4.30 pm (CET) on https://sienainternationalschool.unisi.it/it/ as well as on the Santa Chiara Lab YouTube Channel.
