Student Energy©️ Career Training program 2022 - the inauguration workshop “Energy Transition Pathways”

In the afternoon of 4 October, our Senior Researcher Nicolò Sartori delivered an inaugural lecture to about 35 students from all around the world, selected to take part in the 2022 cohort of the Student Energy Career Training program.

The lecture provided a broad overview of the energy transition, considering the various pathways to undertake it, and outlining the many opportunities it offers. Nicolò also highlighted the active role that young people can play in shaping a successful and fair energy transition. In fact, they certainly have the enthusiasm and imagination to design it, but often need clear guidance on the steps to be taken. It is therefore crucial to leverage education, which allows young people to fully understand the complexity of the topic and, most importantly, provides them with the skills and tools they need to pursue a career in clean energy. In fact, there is no better way of enabling young people to become protagonists of the energy transition than by supporting and encouraging them to enter the labour market in this sector.

In this regard, Christian Zulberti, Deputy Director of Enel Foundation and Head of Relations with Universities and Research Centers, who spoke at the end of the lecture, illustrated how the Enel Foundation’s educational activities are combined with professionalisation for the benefit of the energy transition. In particular, Christian described the Open Africa Power project, one of Enel Foundation's most important training initiatives. Our Researcher Maria Lelli also spoke to present the World Energy Employment report, the most comprehensive inventory of the global energy workforce to date, recently published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) with the support and analytical contribution of Enel Foundation. The report shows the share of employment in the energy sector related to clean energy technologies has grown steadily in last years.

This is why Enel Foundation, proud Knowledge Partner of Student Energy, is supporting and actively contributing to the realization of its four-month Career Training program. Here, young people aged between 18 and 30 will have the valuable opportunity to work in close contact with our researchers on relevant Enel Foundation projects, such as the mentioned Open Africa Power, in an internship that simulates teamwork dynamics.
