The 9th edition of the Advanced Training Course (ATC), the flagship capacity-building initiative dedicated to institutional profiles, high-level managers and other professionals operating in the African RE sector, has successfully reached its conclusion. Enel Foundation was Knowledge Partner for the course, implemented in partnership with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the European Investment Bank, and in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Management and SDA Bocconi.

The training was delivered to 56  high-level participants from 13 African countries, with the objective of enhancing local ownership of sustainable projects, opening new REs-related job opportunities and improving local skills. The beneficiaries, provided with a full scholarship, were from 13 African countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mauritania, Mozambique, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia, Tanzania and Zambia.

The course comprised lectures on the main topics related to Africa’s energy transition: from energy management, energy efficiency measures and electrification, to cross-sectoral decarbonisation enablers, circular economy, Water-Energy-Food Nexus,  project bankability and finance, and from grids and electricity infrastructures to access to energy.

At the closing session, Salvatore Bernabei, President of RES4Africa Foundation and CEO of Enel Green Power, addressed the attendees, stating that they “have the mission and target to address energy poverty in Africa”, a goal that can be achieved by investing in renewable energy. Ernesto Ciorra, Chief Innovability® Officer of Enel and General Manager of Enel Foundation, said, “For Enel Foundation the ATC is a great opportunity to share what we have learnt and to improve our understanding of the needs, culture and context of the African people.  It also reperesents a great opportunity for shared value creation to enhance our understanding of the world as Enel Foundation and for the students to acquire better knowledge on energy.”
