Facing the global energy sector at the OIES Annual Brainstorming

The fourth session of the 32nd Annual Brainstorming organised by the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) took place today, opened by a recording of Francesco Starace, Enel CEO and Enel Foundation Chairman, and then followed by a live session on the key issues of electricity and the energy transition. Starace’s contribution focused on the new geopolitics of energy, the prospects of green hydrogen and the expectations for the COP26 meeting, not to mention the impact that Covid-19 had on accelerating the energy transition. The role of Enel Group as a utility was also discussed in relation to the future decarbonized energy system.

Continuing a long tradition of annual roundtable meetings to discuss the most critical issues facing the global energy sector in the near future, the Brainstorming convened by OIES was an invitation-only event held under the Chatham House Rule, and attended by senior figures from the global energy industry.

The session held virtually on May 21, at 13:00 CET, had our Managing Director Carlo Papa among the panellists debating on the current and future state of the energy industry. In particular, it delved into global economic recovery properly decarbonized to meet net-zero targets powered by Innovations around new finance and business models to align government policy targets with consumer expectations.

During the conversation, the virtual audience had the opportunity to send in questions regarding the aforementioned topics. The webinar attendees were industry and government professionals from OIES’s group of sponsor and benefactor organisations in the global energy industry.
