Mike Howard

Overview

Dr. Howard is a Senior Fellow of Enel Foundation.  He has a Ph.D. in Engineering Science from the University of Tennessee, a MS in Business and Engineering Management from the University of Pittsburgh, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Howard has completed additional professional education courses including the MIT Nuclear Reactor Technology Program, Stanford University Advanced Cyber Security Program, and the Stanford University Law School Directors’ College.

For the past 40 years, Dr. Howard has focused on accelerating the technology and policy toward cleaner energy pathways, deliver better lives for all, and secure a healthier planet for future generations. He has results-driven global experience with multifaceted executive leadership roles, and a complementary mix of business acumen and technological expertise. With a bias toward collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation in organisations ranging from start-ups to large public companies, he is a frequent presenter on energy-related transitions at national and international conferences.

Most recently, Dr. Howard was President and CEO of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), with headquarters in the U.S. plus several international locations. After serving in that role for the past ten years, he recently retired as EPRI’s CEO and was honoured by its Board of Directors as CEO Emeritus. Prior to serving as CEO, Dr. Howard was Senior VP responsible for EPRI’s research and development activities. He began his career in 1980 with Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

Dr. Howard is a director of the World Energy Council, the CMU Scott Institute for Energy Innovation, and a Senior Advisor to the Energy Impact Partners. He previously served on the Boards of Directors of several private technology-based companies, university advisory councils, and industry organisations, and is an active member of IEEE and other technical societies.
