Rome, June 5, 2020

Given the extent of the crisis caused by COVID-19, the role of sustainability in the global recovery will be crucial, increasing the pressure on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

After supporting the launch of the Siena Advanced School on Sustainable Development (SASSD) in 2018, Enel Foundation is renewing the partnership, supporting the School’s new advanced edition. As other educational projects, it will feature both online courses and in loco lectures, developing its curriculum throughout three different phases.

Starting in September 2020 with applications being accepted from June 10 to July 10, the course will offer an even deeper analysis of sustainable development in the key sectors of Italy’s socioeconomic landscape via a multidisciplinary approach, addressing all the major transformations that will characterize the following years at a social, economic and environmental level.

The School is organized by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS), in collaboration with Leonardo, the Italian University Network for Sustainable Development (RUS), Sustainable Development Solution Network Italia (SDSN Italia), Sustainable Development Solutions Network Mediterranean (SDSN Mediterranean) and the Santa Chiara LAB of the University of Siena.

Enrico Giovannini, spokesperson for ASviS and member of the scientific committee of Enel Foundation, said, “ASviS has always been committed to share knowledge on sustainability via educational projects aimed at the many players of civil society. The School was designed to shape professional profiles able to find solutions to change the current development system. The crisis caused by the pandemic proved how interconnected events are, and makes even more urgent the need to train experts that can understand and manage the complexity of what’s required for Italy to continue a sustainable path. The Advanced School is thought of as a second step for those who already have basic knowledge on sustainability from an economic, social and environmental perspective.”

Carlo Papa, Managing Director of Enel Foundation, added, “We are delighted to confirm our support to the Siena Advanced School: a step forward in the knowledge partnership journey with ASviS towards sustainability.  Reinforcing our commitment to education with this venture is especially important post COVID to ensure we all bounce back stronger”.

Angelo Riccaboni, Chair of the S. Chiara Lab UNISI and Coordinator of the Siena Summer School, commented, “Now at its third edition, the School aims to actively contribute to the ‘Decade of Action’, that needs to bring to completion the 2030 Agenda by enacting all the necessary transformation to achieve the SDGs. With this edition, by combining remote and in-sight learning, we’ll give even more room to the corporate world, with professionals that have taken sustainable actions, valorizing concrete solutions and best practices to respond to the new challenges set by the Sustainable Development Goals.”
