Energy training continues online

After the first African session in Cape Town hosted by the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) in February for the 61 students of the Program, Enel Foundation’s education venture Open Africa Power (OAP) continues digitally, starting today its Italian module.

For the following week, OAP students from 16 African nations will be attending online classes held by professionals and academics from prestigious universities such as SDA Bocconi, Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano and Venice International University. The topics discussed will be as diverse as the backgrounds of the people attending and running the daily lectures, going from climate risk and the finance sector to data science, marine energy, electricity and renewables potential. The Virtual Week will also include a virtual visit to the Wind Tunnel of  Politecnico di Milano and the Additive Manufacturing Lab of Politecnico di Torino, as well as  a case study discussion run by Venice International University.

Open Africa Power is now at its third edition, having visited first Kenya and Ethiopia for its residential African modules in 2018 and 2019. This year the International Renewable Energy Association (IRENA) joined the program for the first time as OAP Institutional supporter and a new partnership was unveiled with Nelson Mandela Foundation. To honor such collaboration, the 2020 OAP edition was dedicated to Madiba in recognition of the program’s promotion of sustainable solutions to critical social problems and its contribution to the vision of a just society. The partnership also includes the launch of the “Nelson Mandela Foundation OAP Prize”, granted every year by both institutions to the best student of the program based not only on academic merits but also on the student’s social commitments in giving back to the community.

Partner universities include Strathmore University from Kenya (implementing partner of the Program), University of Nairobi (hosting partner 2018), University of Addis Ababa (hosting partner 2019) and Cape Town University (hosting partner 2020) together with leading Italian institutions for the Italian module such as Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, Bocconi University, Florence School of Regulation and Venice International University.
