Enel Foundation and Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) developed “Chile Territorio Futuro”, an initiative that aims to address major issues that Chile must face, generating cross-cutting instances of dialogue, proposals and tools that are a contribution to the public discussion on the future of the country, its citizens and its territories.

The issues that are being dealt will relate to the construction of environments capable of generating well-being, prosperity and quality of life, for people and neighbourhoods; to climate change scenarios to quantify risks and propose practical reflections to reduce these risks thanks to viable adaptation solutions; and to an ecological transition able to redefine the production and consumption matrix to move towards circular mitigation systems with zero net emissions, among others.

Carlo Papa, Managing Director of Enel Foundation, commented “Chile Territorio Futuro represents a platform to contribute to Chile, bringing together universities, public and private research organizations, companies, associations, to recognize trends and long-term challenges and jointly offer scenarios that provide scientific keys to improve the lives of every citizen and the community as a whole”.

“Through this project, the UDD with the scientific support of the Enel Foundation hopes to contribute to the future of our Chile and the region by generating relevant information, from a broad space for conversation, exploring opportunities for innovation, influencing the development of public policies, forming citizens with the necessary social responsibility to create sustainable value and positively impact the different communities that coexist in our territory,” said Federico Valdés, rector of the UDD.

The project, that looks at 2030, will seek to generate a space for dialogue of relevant actors and a broad and participatory call. An innovative platform to generate debate around long-term scenarios and from where the key questions and issues for the future of Chile will emerge.

With this objective, prospective scenarios will be built based on expert knowledge, data-science, applied research and field work to then prioritize the desirable scenario and generate a vision and "country goal" by topic, activating strategies and actions that enable development. Proposals and concrete actions will be shared regarding the topics and goals addressed, proposing contents, tools or projects that help decision makers and society to advance in a long-term vision of Chile.
