Enel Foundation is to take part in eSG Lab - excellence in Sustainability and Governance for SMEs”, a project by SDA Bocconi and Fondazione Sodalitas, and with the backing of Falck Renewables, to support the sustainable development and competitiveness of Italian enterprises.

eSG Lab aims to help companies fully integrate the most advanced sustainability principles, and ESG issues (Environmental, Social, and Governance) into their business approach. This will be achieved by developing an innovative strategic-organizational model and a tool for sharing knowledge and experiences capable of guiding said strategies and decisions in a context in which sustainability and governance are increasingly important for the lasting success of all-sized enterprises.

eSG Lab was created to implement the commitment expressed by the 77 Italian business leaders who joined the "CEOs Call to Action", the European appeal especially promoted in our country by Fondazione Sodalitas to mobilize other companies, their stakeholders, institutions, and society as a whole, towards sustainable and inclusive growth.

For such companies, effectively adopting sustainable models means becoming more competitive and more effective in managing risk profiles and attracting investments, and at the same time contributing to the effort that the country is making to attain the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

This is an initiative that combines the thoroughness of scientific research and the substance of business needs, to be developed through a journey that involves companies and supply chains to participate. The goal is to help implement a widespread Stakeholder Economy model, in which each company is all the more capable of generating value for itself the more it generates development for society as a whole.

As Ernesto Ciorra, Director Innovability® at Enel Group and General Manager of Enel Foundation, commented “Enel Foundation is pleased to share its wealth of knowledge and experience useful for responding effectively to the social, environmental and energy challenges of our time. eSG Lab will represent an important link and cohesion element in the Italian business system, and will enable us to share a methodological and operational path that allows for the integration of sustainability into all business activities”

Gianmario Verona, Chancellor of Università Bocconi, added, "a real cultural turning point has taken place over the years, one in which we take a 360-degree look at the impact and value that companies create with respect to all stakeholders in the broadest sense of the term, from shareholders to end-users, without losing sight of the workers and the territory. Themes such as sustainability, ethics, and inclusion, have become central objectives to all companies. The post-pandemic world that we build together must be based upon these principles. eSG Lab, designed and strongly supported by SDA Bocconi, School of Management, together with Fondazione Sodalitas, aims to be both a stimulus and a catalyst for this positive tension, in order to position itself alongside companies engaged in this process of profound transformation”

“eSG Lab is a project with a particularly innovative profile, which we strongly believe in as it includes companies that consider sustainability a key factor in creating value”, declared Enrico Falck, President of Fondazione Sodalitas. "We intend to implement this initiative by reinforcing the example of our associated companies and business leaders who signed the 'CEOs Call to Action', committed to integrating ESG issues to promote the necessary changes and transformations along the value chains. We are convinced that many more companies will feel encouraged by such example to build a sustainable success based on the strong synergy between company growth and social development".

Toni Volpe, CEO of Falck Renewables stated, “At Falck Renewables, sustainability is the driver that guides our choices, and an increasingly important factor in business success, thanks to the creation of shared value. We are happy to support and participate in eSG Lab, a project that we consider ambitious and of great importance, and with which we want to share our experience of ESG integration in corporate governance processes, for the definition of a new organizational model available to companies, and their competitiveness and sustainability".
