Education for Sustainability initiative presented in Ministerial meeting

Rome, 11th April 2019

Education for sustainability plays a crucial role in changing individual behaviors and pushing for new patterns of production, distribution and consumption. Enel Foundation and ASviS (Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development), ahead of yet another edition of ASviS’ Italian Sustainable Development Festival, embarked on a new initiative presenting an e-book on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their applications in the daily life of Italian Universities.

dedicated online platform created with Treccani Scuola contains a first section of the e-book with contributions by Rectors and Alumni of the 2018 edition of the Siena Summer School on sustainable development. Through a built-in crowdsourcing tool allowing the submission of contributions by Academia at large - from freshman to PhD candidates, the e-book will actually be expanded with a second section containing the best stories and contributions on the implementation of the SDGs in Italy.

The initiative was launched at a meeting with the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), on April 11, with the presence of Enrico Giovannini, Spokesperson for ASviS and Carlo Papa, Director Enel Foundation. Enel Foundation and ASviS continue to spread the culture of sustainability and to increase its awareness within the Italian society and institutions

Carlo Papa, Director of Enel Foundation, commented, “The collaboration between the Enel Foundation and ASviS is enriched by a new chapter. Convergence towards sustainability and circular economy calls for young generations as protagonists and University institutions as indispensable cultural transformation agents.”

Enrico Giovannini, Spokesperson of ASviS, added “Given the importance of the SDGs in business strategies, public policies and concrete actions undertaken by civil society organisations, in Italy and elsewhere, I would like to invite all students of Italian Universities to contribute to this innovative project and to demonstrate the creativity of young people to address the huge challenges of the transition to sustainable development”.
