October 11-12, 2022
The International Conference on Global Forest and Tree Restoration, Rome, 11-12 October 2022, will see the participation of Enel Foundation as Knowledge Partner. The Conference will assess the state of knowledge and experience in the area of reforestation, and will lay the foundations for international reforestation efforts. Its objectives also comprise the preparation of a document to be presented at the G20 Summit to be held in Indonesia in November 2022.
Our Managing Director Carlo Papa will speak at the start of the conference, together with Roberto Antonelli, President of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, and Maria Helena Semedo , Deputy Director-General of FAO. On the second day, Marco Favarato, Head of Innovability®, Global Energy and Commodity Management at Enel, will speak on Risk and Opportunity Management as part of the round table “Multilateral initiatives and the potential role of civil society and the private sector”.
In addition, the implementation of reforestation projects requires support from scientific evidence to address critical problems, such as the capability of producing sufficient quantities of young trees, and the identification of priority areas for reforestation.
The 2021 G20 Summit and the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference COP26 reaffirmed the fundamental role of trees, forests and forest conservation in the protection of the global environment. The commitment made by G20 nations to encourage afforestation, focusing on the most degraded ecosystems around the world, marks significant recognition for the forestry sector. Large-scale global forest conservation and afforestation would contribute – especially in contexts with high levels of youth unemployment and poverty – to creating jobs. A number of projects are at different stages of progress in different parts of the world, promoted by governmental and private organizations and foundations.
